Bluefield, WV- William Harold Looney, Sr. of 2212 Washington Street, Bluefield, died Thursday October 18, 2007 at his home. ???? Mr. Looney was born on August 15, 1914.? He was a graduate of Princeton High School Class of 1932 and Concord College Class of 1936 where he played football and gymnastics.? He obtained a Masters Degree and Principal's Certification from West Virginia University.? He taught in the Mercer County School System for about 40 years.??? He was the all sports coach at Fairview Junior High School for 20 years.? Mr. Looney was a Principal or teacher at Montcalm High School, Fairview Junior High, Central Junior High and Bluefield High School.? He also taught Manual Training and was a skilled carpenter and craftsman.? ???? Mr. Looney served in World War II as Lieutenant JG in the U.S. Navy on the USS Arlington, a transporter ship.? He was also a member of the American Legion.? ???? He was President and co-developer of Sandstone Park, a residential sub-division on part of the family farm property on Route 20 near Princeton. ???? His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golf, raising bees, gardening and horses.? He also enjoyed WVU sports.? He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield. ???? He was preceded in death by his father and mother, W.N. and Ora Looney of Princeton; brothers, Paul and Edward; sisters, Faye Hurst and Lana Looney; and a granddaughter, Chris Simmons Presley. ???? He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara Belle Honaker Looney; one son, William H. Looney, Jr. and his wife Jonna of Bluefield; one daughter, Isabel Simmons and her husband Danny of Bluefield; one sister, Edna Looney of Princeton, WV; grandchildren, Jon William Looney of Bluefield, Linda Looney Diemer and husband Mike of Raleigh, NC, Daniel T. Simmons, Jr. of Bluefield, Susan VanHoose and husband Greg of Ravenswood, WV and Tracy Freund and husband Drew of Bluefield, WV; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Delma Harden, Darleen Green, Libby Shrewsbury, Reese Southern and Anita Sudduth.? ???? Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday October 21, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Miller and Dr. Don Scott officiating.? ???? The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. ???? A cryptside service will be held on Monday October 22nd at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Wildwood Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.? Honorary pallbearers will be Jon William Looney, Daniel T. Simmons, Jr., Jeremy Simmons, Mike Diemer, Greg VanHoose, John Honaker and Jim Honaker. ????
