William (Bill) Eugene Wimmer

William (Bill) Eugene Wimmer passed away early Friday morning, January 19, 2024, at his residence. Born September 8, 1931, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the third child of the late French and the late Callie Thornton Wimmer. Ninety-two trips around the sun, Bill enlightened the lives of his loved ones and strangers alike. A life lived full of love, giving, and sharing. He loved to watch the world around him sitting on his front porch and the back patio. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed talking to both friends and strangers. Bill was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers. His yard was the greenest and prettiest of the Ohio Street homes. Bill was a servant to others whether it be tilling the gardens for his neighbors, moving heavy objects or replace a light bulb. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He could listen to the sounds of your vehicle to tell you what needed repaired. He loved to repair and rebuild lawnmowers. Bill proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1949-1961 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had tours in Korea, Italy, the Mediterranean and Germany. Bill was enormously proud when his grandson Brayden Wimmer chose to serve in the US Air Force. Brayden is currently stationed in Korea. Bill’s first retirement from driving trucks was short-lived. He had several part-time jobs as a merchandise/stocker at the Westgate Dollar General Store, driving the drop off car for a repo company and working for a paving company. His retirement from these jobs was short-lived as he became the baby-sitter for several of his grandchildren. Bill loved his family fiercely. Especially his bride of 61 years, Patricia Marra Wimmer. These last years, his love, devotion, and dedication to her was a joy to see. He worked tirelessly around the house to make it more accessible for him and Patricia. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, French and Callie Thornton Wimmer. His wife’s parents, John and Alice Fortune Marra. His siblings, Herbert Wimmer, Violet Conley, Norma Belcher, Dallas Wimmer, Pete Wimmer, Bobby Wimmer, Jim Wimmer, Earl Wimmer and Ellen Bailey. In addition to his wife, Patricia Marra Wimmer, Bill is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Daughter, Cathy Wimmer, her husband Patrick Anderson and their children Will Smith and wife Cera, son Landon, son Liam and baby girl Maggie May due in March and Parker Anderson and his fiancé Chasity Davis and their son Carson; Daughter, Alice Anne Goodman, her husband Bobby and their daughter Randi; son John Wimmer and his wife Kristan and their children, Peyton Wimmer, Bryce Wimmer, Jayden Bailey, Brayden Wimmer and Kynlee Wimmer. He is survived by his sister Nancy Baker and his brother Roger Wimmer. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Margaret Marra and his brother’s-in-law John Marra, Al Marra and wife Cathie, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Extended Ohio Street family of George, Deanna, Jack, Cecil, Harry, and Betty also survive Bill. Visitation will be 10am, Saturday, January 27, 2024. Service will be 11am, Saturday, January 27, 2024, with a reception to follow at Christ Episcopal Church, 200 During Street, Bluefield, West Virginia 24701.
