Otis Reid

Bluefield, WV- Otis E. Reid, Jr., 86, of The Maples, and formerly of 900 Frederick Street, Bluefield, WV, died Thursday November 4, 2010 in a Bluefield hospital. Mr. Reid was born May 14, 1924 to Otis E. Reid, Sr. and Mae Lovell Reid in Lillybrook, WV. He had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a member of Crossroads Church in Bluefield. He was president of Reid Belt and Rubber Company, retiring in 1986. Mr. Reid was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He loved football and baseball, and was an avid fan of the Washington Red Skins and the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Reid; an infant son, Otis; granddaughter, Jamie Lee Taylor; brother, Paul Reid; and sister, Isabel Reid. He is survived by his loving wife, Dollie, who he referred to as “The Love of His Life”; step-children, who he loved as his own, Don Stamper, Jr. and his wife Sue; Kathy Mathena and her husband Preston, Sharon Borich and her husband Jerry, Lynne Taylor and her husband Teddy and Donna Gearhart and her husband Barry; grandchildren that he loved dearly and who affectionately called him “Pa Paw”, Joshua Stamper, Kelly Borich, Leanne Ambroziak, Stephanie Taylor, Nick Taylor, Crystal Wright, Amy Snitzel; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Belvia Honaker of Glenwood Nursing Home; brother, William Reid of Roanoke, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Sunday evening, November 7, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday November 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.Preston Mathena officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside honors will be rendered by the Mercer County Veteran’s Council and the West Virginia Honor Guard.
