Margaret Tate "Peggy" Scruggs

Bluefield, WV- Margaret Tate “Peggy” Scruggs, 88, of Bluefield, WV, died Sunday January 25, 2015 at her home. Born October 14, 1926 in Bristol, VA, she was a daughter of the late Anderson Garrett Tate and Margaret Keesling Tate. Mrs. Scruggs grew up in Bluefield and attended Fairview School and graduated from Beaver High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught preschool Sunday school for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Encouragers Sunday school class and involved with WMU and the Katherine Walker Women’s circle. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman L. Scruggs; and one sister, Nancy Tate Cadieux; and one grandchild, Charles David Scruggs. Survivors include her children, David Scruggs and wife Brenda of Bluefield, VA, Sam Scruggs and wife Kathy of Bluefield, WV, Jeff Scruggs and wife Cheryl of Plano, TX, and Sue Doane and husband Eric of Evans, GA; eleven grandchildren, Elizabeth Scruggs, Andrew Scruggs, and Allyson Scruggs, all of Bluefield, Christopher Scruggs and wife Tracey of Lesage, WV, Josh Scruggs and Jacob Scruggs of Morgantown, WV, Brittany Morgan and husband Shaun of Nashville, TN, Lauren Kennedy and husband Jason of Los Angeles, CA, Katherine Callan and husband Richard of Savannah, GA, Camille Doane of Athens, GA, and Tim Doane of Wake Forest, NC; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Scruggs and Caroline Callan; and three special caregivers, Betty, Sharon, and Anna. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. W. Wesley Huff officiating. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, January 27, 2015 from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery where Andrew Scruggs, Christopher Scruggs, Joshua Scruggs, Jacob Scruggs, Tim Doane, and Abel Solademi will serve as pallbearers.
