Lt. Col. Cecil Roy Morrow Jr.

Lt. Col. Cecil Roy Morrow Jr., 87, of Bluefield, Wv. passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at his home. Born December 15, 1934 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was the son of Cecil R. Morrow Sr. and Edith Helen Dickerson Morrow. He was a veteran of the United States Army (retired). He received a Bachelor of Arts from Southwest Missouri State University and multiple Post Graduate Law Degrees from the University of Texas - Law School (Austin, TX), University of Virginia - Law School (Charlottesville, VA), and George Washington University - Law School (Washington, D.C.) During his distinguished military career of 21 years he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served as commanding officer of the Spandau Prison Guard during the building of the Berlin Wall in Germany. He began his career as an infantry officer becoming an expert marksman, an Airborne Ranger 82nd Div., a Jungle Warfare expert, a tank platoon commander and then advancing to become a military Judge after joining the Army Judge Advocate General Corps. After his retirement from the military in 1977, he opened a law firm in Austin, TX. Along with having a Bar License to practice law in Washington, D.C. and Texas he could practice international law and was certified to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. His athletic interests and talents included running on the Southwest Missouri State University track team, hiking and camping, cycling, Army ping-pong champion, and a lifelong tennis player. He was a state ranked tennis player in his fifties. Throughout his tennis career he competed in and won numerous tennis tournaments and coached dozens of players including family members. His hobbies included: photography, camera collecting, and furniture collecting. He was a talented singer and played the guitar and violin along with being an avid reader. Cecil was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he is loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Celestine Line Morrow and his daughter, Edith Marie Morrow. His grandchildren: Sterling and Jaime Morrow, and Bryttnie M. Morrow, his two great grandchildren, Finlay and Roan, and his sister, Linda Allen. By his choice he will be cremated, and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.
