Doris Funari

Scott Depot, WV - Doris Funari, 88, formerly of Bluefield, WV, died on March 3rd,in Scott Depot, WV. She was born on March 11, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Conly Robert and Effie Garland Smith. With the exception of a few years (1960-1967) living in Roanoke, VA, Doris was a lifelong resident of her beloved Bluefield. At the time of her retirement in 2004, Doris was Secretary/Treasurer of Consolidated Motor Express, Inc., a family-owned trucking company, where she had worked for over 35 years. Doris was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield where she faithfully participated in Women's ministries, small group bible study, and in teaching Sunday School. Her faithful service was acknowledged in her receiving a Lifetime Membership given by the Women of the Church in 2010. Doris was particularly fond of the many years spent in the fellowship of the "Lynch/Hartzog" small group. She was also quite active in the Fratelli Tricolore Lodge #2631 Order of the Sons of Italy, where she was well loved as an "IBM-er," (Italian-by-Marriage), and enjoyed the fun of Italian culture, cooking and community. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Sarah Brewster Smith, ,brother, Carl F. Smith, sister, Nancy S. Dye, and the love of her life and husband of 51years, Jimmy. Survivors include her four children, John Robert (Jackie), of Bluefield, WV; Jim L. (Susan), of Chesapeake, VA; Mary Ann (Keith) of Scott Depot, WV, and Sharon K. of Richmond, VA; ten grandchildren, John G. Funari (Lisa), John C. Funari, Christina F. Ortiz (Eric), Robert T. Funari (Leia), Christopher K. Hare (Mary), Stephanie F. Cadle (Phil), Michael W. Hare (Amanda), Joseph T. Hare, Kayann E. Hare, and Daniel S. Hare; two step-grandsons, James R. Sowers, Jr. (Beth), and L. David Sowers (Amy); seven great-grandchildren, Riley, Mason, Audrey, Addison, Isaac, Harper and Kinsley; four step-great-grandchildren, Aaron, Teagan, Isabel, and Leo; and several very special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm on Sunday, March 6th, at Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, WV. A memorial service will be conducted at 10am on Monday, March 7th, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Chadwick and Rev. Jonathan Rockness officiating. Burial will follow at the Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Green Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doris' memory to the Bible in the Schools program (PO Box 543, Bluefield, WV 24701) or to Westminster Presbyterian Church (P.O. Box 1258 Bluefield, WV 24701).
