Crozier Patteson

Bluefield, WV- Crozier Allen Patteson of Bluefield W.V. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday March 11, 2010. He was born September 14, 1923 in Pettry W.V. to the late Jessie Robert Patteson and Exie Vean Gore Patteson. He was the oldest of eleven children and has always demonstrated a strong sense of love and closeness to his family. Crozier served in the Navy during WWII with the majority of the time in the South Pacific. Once returning home he was a mechanic for several years at the old Johnson Motor Company in Princeton W.V. Following this, he worked as a pressman for the Bluefield Daily Telegraph for many years. Crozier loved the outdoors. He enjoyed working in the garden, keeping a well-manicured lawn, and helping his neighbors in whatever way he could. He was truly a man who enjoyed work and loved working with his hands. Crozier absolutely loved hunting and fishing, but especially hunting! He enjoyed camping and boating as well. For the past several years his favorite place to be when he was not at home was the Ponderosa (his brother James' place at Camp Creek). He had a heart full of love and compassion and would do anything for anyone that he could. Even during times of illness, Crozier was concerned and worried for others. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he went. He married Annie Marie Carroll Patteson on April 7, 1950. As they grew older together Crozier has always taken care of Annie, and Annie has always taken care of Crozier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Clayton Leroy Patteson and Kyle Robert Patteson. Left to cherish his memory are loving wife Annie Marie Patteson, his daughters Sandra Gail Spivey and husband Jerry of Bluefield, Carol Beth Carbaugh and husband Richard of Daniels WV; 5 grandchildren Jerri Lynn Green and special friend Jeff Frazier of Bluefield, Kristy Michelle Spivey-Mitchell and husband Jason of Mesa AZ, Amanda Marie French and husband Michael of Princeton, Richard "Allen" Carbaugh. and Angela Lee Carbaugh (Granddaddy's lil red head) both of Daniels WV; sisters and brothers, Pearl Elizabeth Former of Princeton, sister in law Betty Rae Patteson of Greensboro NC. Ruby Faye Carroll of Bluefield, Charles Thomas Patterson and wife Zula of Princeton, James Rufus Patteson and wife Jean of Roanoke Rapids NC, Etta Launa Barrett of Greensboro NC. Rosella Marie Bird and husband Larry of Sumrall MS, Betty Louise Long of Bluefield and Linda Sue Lilly and husband Clinton of Spanishburg; and many nieces and nephews. Crozier was loved by all of his family and friends. We all have wonderful memories that we will cherish until we see him in Heaven. Death is not a period----it's only a comma. Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Mercer Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Carbaugh and Rev. Ken Owens officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Princeton, WV where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jack Thomas of Florida, Mr. George Strike of Bluefield, VA and Charles Patterson of Princeton, WV. The family will receive friends Sunday March 14, 2010 at Mercer Funeral Home from 6:00 ??“ 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Edgemont Baptist Church of Bluefield or First Southern Baptist Church of Grandview, WV.
