Bluefield, WV- Norman Earl Doughten, Sr., 86, of Bluefield, WV, died Monday December 10, 2018 at his home. Mr. Doughten was a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. He was a self-made man who retired as Captain of Bluefield Fire Department, and he was also a Master Plumber and had owned and operated his own plumbing company. Mr. Doughten had a love of life and an infectious laugh. Just his presence made him the life of the party. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had a plaque at Charlotte Motor Speedway in recognition of his attendance to the first 50 races. He also loved to travel and dance. The most important roll of Mr. Doughten’s life was that of being a father. He loved his family and was a fantastic father and friend to his son, Buzzy. He will be missed greatly. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Buzzy Doughten and wife Donna of Marietta, GA; special Aunt Mozelle Brown; uncle, Robert Doughten; special neighbors who the family wishes to thank, the Higgins family; special friend, Henry Glenn of Bluefield, WV; and too many friends to mention. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Friday December 14, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday December 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery where Fred Simon, David Litz, Dickie Flinchum, Rob Melton, Buddy Matthews, and Sonny Matthews will serve as pallbearers.
