Nettie Ellen Roland

Nettie Ellen Roland, age 100, passed away on Friday March 4, 2022 at her home in Bluefield, WV. She was formerly of Arvonia, Buckingham County, VA. She lived over 70 years in Ada, WV. She was born in Arvonia to the late Henry and Lizzie Covey. Ellen was a homemaker that loved sewing, reading her Bible, gardening, and spending time with her family. Ellen is survived by two brothers, Alvey Covey and wife Shirley of Colonial Beach, VA, Henry Covey and wife Marilyn of Stoney Creek, VA. Ellen is also survived by her six children, Doneita Knight and husband Jim, Brenda Goforth, Carol Blankenship, Mary Brown, Darrell Roland and wife Patty, Sherry Hager and husband Troy, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Jackson Roland; brothers, Paul Covey and Edgar Taylor; sisters, Merlie Mitchell, Goldie Fincham, and Thelma Norman; and one grandchild, Brian Roland. Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tony Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will be at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA, where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
