Harold "Joe" Adams, Sr.

November 15, 1929 - March 9, 2019

Princeton, WV- Harold W. “Joe” Adams, Sr., 89, of The Havens in Princeton died Saturday March 9, 2019 at The Havens. Born November 15, 1929 in Luling, TX, he was a son of the late A.C. Adams and Alma Pewe Adams. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. His father taught him to play the harmonica at a young age and he entertained family and friends with his harmonica playing throughout the rest of his life—playing for children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, friends and most recently, for the other residents at The Havens. He retired from GTE where he served in many capacities throughout his career. He was also the cornerstone of organizing GTE functions. Joe was a former member and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church and Cumberland Heights Baptist Church and was currently a member at Bluefield Church of the Nazarene. He was an athlete, and his lifetime passion was golf. He worked in the pro shop at the Bluefield Elks Clubs and Fincastle Country Club. He also served on the board at the Bluefield Union Mission. He was a devoted family man and a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Taylor Adams in 2011; and two brothers, Clay and John Thomas. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Brenda Warden and husband Steve of Charlotte, NC, Carol Nelson and husband Jim of Bluefield, WV, and Dr. Hal Adams and wife Lisa of Christiansburg, VA; three sisters, Betty Morgan and Margaret Romero, both of Lake Charles, LA, and Georgia Heyd of Iowa, LA; seven grandchildren, Tabitha Shelor and husband Jeremy, Rebekah Hill and husband Brandon, Drew Nelson and wife Heather, Jacqueline Nelson, Adam Nelson and wife Amber, Susan Horne and husband Christian, and Joseph Hall; great-grandchildren, James, Jude, John, Olivia, Henry, Grey, Thatcher, and Emory. In accordance with his wishes, Joe will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
