Wanda L. Conley Yokosuk

Wanda L. Conley Yokosuk died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This great-grandmother was 12 days shy of her 23rd birthday. Wanda was born in Yukon, WV on February 29, 1932. She was the third of 13 children born to the late Clyde and Ida Conley. Her brothers and sisters lovingly called her “Datie”, but no one remembers why. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her former husband, Mike “Skomie” Yokosuk, her daughter Starr Testerman, her grandson Zack Testerman, her daughter-in-law Alice Yokosuk, and 10 of her siblings: Clyde “Duge” Conley, George Conley, Janet Conley, Glenna “Bill” Bowen, Doris Green, Anna Peery, Roger Conley, Olivia “Libby” Shrewsbury, Jerry Conley, and Danny Conley. Left to remember her impeccable style, pull-no-punches bluntness, and legacy of doing exactly as she pleased are her son John Yokosuk of Nashville, TN, granddaughters Sosha (Tony) Lewis of Charlotte, NC, and Angie Testerman of Bluefield, WV, and grandson Michael (Kendall) Yokosuk of Nashville, TN, and three great-grandchildren: Conley Lewis, J’beon Barnett, and Finn Yokosuk. She will also be deeply missed by sisters Patty Riddle of Hopewell, VA, and Chris Montgomery of Colonial Beach, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Wanda spent the last few months of her life with her beloved sisters at Chris’s house in Colonial Beach, VA. They laughed about the old times, bickered about what to watch on TV, and ate vats of macaroni and tomatoes - a meal Wanda requested daily. After a somewhat nomadic childhood, Wanda settled in Welch, WV when she was 18 and called it home for 40 years. She eventually moved to Bluefield, WV, and adopted three of her grandchildren, working tirelessly at Payless Shoes to provide for them. Wanda was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed attending meetings and assemblies and participating in field service. Her beliefs meant she looked forward to reuniting with many of her loved ones in an eternal earthly paradise. And, He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more. The former things have passed away. - Revelation 21:4, New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures From being born on a day that only comes around once every four years to championing underdogs everywhere, Wanda was the definition of “one of a kind”. Live like Wanda by drinking coffee as black as a starless night, by putting on your best heels and dancing with joy, by loving your people fiercely, and by constantly judging others. Please join us in remembering and celebrating Wanda’s life on March 7, 2024, at Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, WV. A visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00pm, with a service at 2:00pm.
