Shirley Joneil Horton

Bluefield, WV- Shirley Joneil Horton, 79, of Bluefield, WV, died Saturday September 26, 2015. Born June 11, 1936 in Pound, VA, she was a daughter of the late Donald Burns Willis and Lottie Bernice Cantrell Willis. Mrs. Horton was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was a devoted mother and was a very positive person. She enjoyed swimming and working crossword puzzles. She was a longtime member of the Bluefield Civic League. Mrs. Horton took pride in her volunteer service at Mary’s Cradle, M.O.P.S., and with Project Graduation at Bluefield High School for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Willis; and one sister, Nannie Willis Short. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Harold Eugene Horton, Sr. of the home; three children, Regina Horton Lacy of Bluefield, WV, Beverly Horton Damron and husband Patrick of Bluefield, VA, and Harold E. Horton, Jr. and wife Jami of Alvin, TX; one sister, Rebecca Willis Cox and husband Dempsey of Clintwood, VA; eight grandchildren, Melanie Lacy Rusch and husband Ted of Marietta, GA, Brittany Lacy Barrow of Tuscaloosa, AL, Kristan Lacy Wimmer and husband John of Bluefield, WV, Ashley Litz DeGray and husband Greg of Bluefield, VA, Morgan Litz Walk and husband Travis of Charlotte, NC, and John, Hannah, and James Horton, all of Alvin, TX; great-grandchildren, Jayden Bailey of Bluefield, WV, Aiden, Greyson, and Griffin Rusch, all of Marietta, GA, John (Jack) and Sophia Barrow of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Mrs. Horton was looking forward to the birth of two more great-grandchildren this year; and special friends of the family, Frank and Jean Mitchell. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Sargent officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour.
