Sharyn Gibson

Dr. Sharyn Delaine Gibson, 60, of Savannah, Georgia, died Friday evening, March 28, 2008, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.?Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was a daughter of Josephine Loraine Havens Gibson and the late Clayton Monroe Gibson. Dr. Gibson was a communicant of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and was happiest when spending time with her family, especially her nephews and close friends.?? Dr. Gibson received her doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University.? She taught at Armstrong Atlantic State University for 25 years where she was a Professor and Department Head for the Department of Radiologic Sciences. Dr. Gibson was an active faculty member who contributed to multiple committees at Armstrong. Some of her professional accomplishments included president of the Savannah Society of Radiologic Technologists and the Georgia Society of Radiologic Technologists. She also held other positions in various professional organizations. Dr. Gibson was a recipient of the H. Dean Propst Award for Academic Excellence and she was honored to present the Marjorie Tolan Honorary Lecture in 1990. Dr. Gibson had been published in multiple professional journals and had served on multiple national committees. ?Dr. Gibson has also served as a site visitor for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.?In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John Monroe Gibson and The Reverend and Mrs. Ralph Hager, Sr., her maternal grandparents, Myrtle and Cecil Havens, several aunts and uncles, Dorothy and Joseph Prazecky, Kay Havens, Roy and Lottie Gibson and Lucille and Guy Phillips.?Surviving are her mother, Josephine Loraine Havens Gibson of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Esma Gibson Campbell and her husband, Guy, of Savannah, Georgia; two nephews, Justin Samuel Strode and Brian Gibson Strode.? Her aunts and uncles include, The Reverend Ralph, Jr. and Betty Hager, Joan and Leonard Davis, and Donald ?Havens. Cousins include Joseph and Renee Prazecky, Rollie Ted Phillips, Rev. Nick Hager and Jenny Hager, Darrell and Tammy Hager, Judy and Mike McGarvey, The Reverend Betty Jean Davis, Janet Davis, Cindy and Mike Nunn, Donna Havens, Teresa Gibson Stanley, and Susie Gibson Pugh. The rosary service will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the family receiving friends afterwards until 6:30 o'clock.?A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning in St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church conducted by Monsignor Francis J. Nelson.?The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, West Virginia.? A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, West Virginia, conducted by her uncle, The Reverend Ralph Hager, Jr., and her cousin, The Reverend Betty Jean Davis.
