Saralee "Sally" Myers Blackburn

Bluefield, WV- Saralee “Sally” Blackburn, age 86, of 2816 Locust Grove, Bluefield, WV, passed away September 30, 2019 at Westwood Health Care Center. Born September 18, 1933 in Clarksburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Virginia Myers. She was the loving wife of the late Aubert Blackburn. Sally will be lovingly remembered and cherished for her devotion to her family. She served them in countless ways, including helping 20 years in the PTA at Cumberland Heights Elementary School, where she helped plan and execute Fall Festivals, fashion shows, Valentine parties and Maypole celebrations. Having a strong faith in Jesus Christ, she was a member of Cumberland Heights Baptist Church where she gave herself to many roles, all the way from changing diapers to crafts and kitchen duty for Vacation Bible Schools to years as a Sunday School youth teacher. She also attended First Baptist Church of Bluefield. Sally was an avid bowler at Mountaineer Bowling Lanes where she bowled in leagues for 40 plus year – although she never thought she was “old” enough to bowl in the senior league. She also enjoyed working at the bowling alley behind the counter. In any and everything Sally mixed her faith and service with a sense of humor, always saying you needed to be able to laugh a little as you went through life. All who knew her will remember a full life well lived. Sally is survived by 4 children - her son and his wife, Larry and Maggie Blackburn of Rio Rancho, NM; daughter, Karen Blackburn of Bluefield, WV; daughter and husband, Anita and Victor Weatherholt of Lynchburg, VA; and daughter Lisa Blackburn of Cary, NC. She also has 3 grandchildren - Brandan Rogers and his wife Petina of TX, Kalub Shumate of TX and Emily Weatherholt of VA. There are also 4 great-grandchildren in TX. Funeral services will be held at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV on Saturday October 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Tricia Baldwin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
