Richard Milton Holcomb

Bluefield, WV- Richard Milton Holcomb, 91 of Bluefield, WV went to be with the Lord on Thursday September 22, 2016. Born June 11, 1925, he was the son of the late Scott Dennis Holcomb and Lula White Holcomb. Richard was a lifelong resident of Bluefield and lived on Edgemont Drive for over 60 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 64 years Rosaline Gray Holcomb, and beloved daughter Risa Lou Holcomb Furches. Richard served our country and military in World War II with the United States Navy where he was a machinist. He sailed mainly on the U.S.S. Vulcan. He served for 4 years in the Pacific Ocean, after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the Atlantic Ocean. He was proud of his service to the nation. He worked at and retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad that later became Norfolk and Southern where he was a brakeman. Richard was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had an incredible love for country, family, and church. Richard is survived by his sister Margaret Callert of Freehold, NJ and two sons, Richard Milton "Rick" Holcomb, Jr. and wife Marilyn of Fort Worth, Texas, Russell Jay "Rusty" Holcomb and wife Rita of Rocky Gap, VA. Grandsons, Rodney Holcomb of Bramwell, WV and Jared Holcomb and wife Amanda of Fort Worth, Texas. Granddaughters Terrisa Smothers and husband Charlie of Springville, VA, Sherry Franklin of Bluefield, WV, Erin Furches of Athens, WV, Robyn Holcomb of Fort Worth, TX. Great-grandchildren Sean Holcomb, Jonathan Jennings, Harley Jennings, Kasey Franklin, Chelsey Franklin, Logan Krauss, Gabriel Lambert, Leah Lambert, Jaden Holcomb, Miriana Holcomb, and Lincoln Holcomb. The family will recieve friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Sunday September 25, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A cryptside service will be held on Monday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop David Boone officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Mercer County Veteran's Council. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Holcomb, Sean Holcomb, Jared Holcomb, Jonathan Jennings, Harley Jennings, Kasey Franklin, Logan Krauss, Gabriel Lambert, and Jaden Holcomb.
