God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best.” unknown New York, NY- Lila Mae and Franklin Johnson Sr. gave birth to their third child, Percy Lee Johnson, on January 11th, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York. From this warm home, shared with his loving siblings, countless values were taught, and many steadfast lessons were learned; all of which he’s carried with him throughout his life. From a young age, Percy had dealt with a precarious health history; a challenge that he never let hold him back throughout his life. Percy attended schools in New York, including Eastern District High School and Queensborough College. As long as his health permitted, he was also a talented athlete who excelled in basketball. During his teenage years he met his high school sweetheart, Margie Clifton. The two married on December 15th, 1973, a union that would last nearly 40 years. Within that union, their only child, his namesake, was born in January of 1984. His working years, beginning in 1970 and spanning through 2006, were spent between Metropolitan Life Insurance Company serving as senior pension administrator and New York-Presbyterian Hospital performing various duties ranging from venipuncture technician to building service. Throughout his life, his commitments to family, close attention to detail and organization, razor sharp wit, and appreciation for life’s simple joys of relaxation were most important to Percy. No matter what challenges his health had posed throughout his life, he was never one to let that impede his independence or livelihood, nor stop his fight towards optimal living. Nonetheless, God decided to ease his struggling and end his pain, joining him with his parents, his brother, Kenneth Johnson, and his brother-in-law Willie Moses, on the evening of December 21st, 2010. Left to cherish his memories, carry on his example, and share his values, are his wife, Margie, his son, Percy Jr., his doting sister, Gervine Moses, two brothers, Franklin Johnson Jr., and Seymore Johnson, one niece, three nephews, and a host of caring and loving friends. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Friday December 31, 2010 from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Spencer officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be family members and friends. Burial will be at a later date.
