Olaf "Bootie" Powell

Bluefield, WV- Olaf Louise "Bootie" Powell, 73, of Route 1, Box 183-A, Bluefield, peacefully left her loving home on Friday March 6, 2009 to go be with the Lord while surrounded by her loving family. She courageously and bravely fought a long battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer. Born on June 2, 1935 in Bradshaw, WV, she was a daughter of the late William Ralph Asbury and Stella Cyphers Coleman Asbury. Bootie was a longtime, active member of Greenview United Methodist Church where she participated in the Lady's Circle, was a Sunday school teacher, worked with the youth of the church and served on different committees. She was a loving wife and mother, and was a loving Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Powell was a seamstress and was also vocally talented, inspiring her family through her music. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, J. Mark Powell, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband, Lowell T. "Tommy" Powell of the home, to whom she was a devoted and loving wife for 56 years; four children, Steve Powell and his wife Sam of Princeton, WV, Vickey Powell Tolbert and her husband Jim of Princeton, WV, David Powell and his wife Cindy of Knoxville, TN and Leah Powell of Bluefield, WV; one brother, William Ralph Asbury, Jr. and his wife Marita of Polk County, FL; one sister, Betty A. Miles of Tallahassee, FL; 13 grandchildren, Julie Lilly and her husband Shawn, Jason Powell and his wife Missy, Elizabeth Tolbert, Andy Tolbert, Emily Tolbert, Erin Powell, Amanda Powell, Nicholas Powell, Harrison Powell, Morgan Powell, Jeremiah Johnson, Courtney Matney and her husband Jon and Kala Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Jakeb Lilly, Nathan Lilly, Hunter Powell, Hayden Powell and Hailynn Powell; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
