Bluefield, WV- Mildred S. Thomas, 74, of Bluefield, WV, died Monday, April 27, 2026 in Bluefield. Born August 10, 1951 in Powhattan, WV, she was a daughter of the late David Elston and Vella Neal Elston. With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, Mrs. Thomas is remembered as a devoted woman whose faith in the Lord guided her every step. Her unwavering belief was the foundation of her strength, compassion, and the kindness she extended so freely to others. She was a mother not only to her own children, but to many. Her home-and her heart-were always open, offering comfort, guidance, and unconditional love to anyone in need. Countless lives were touched by her nurturing spirit, and many found in her the support and encouragement they needed to grow. A passionate advocate and mentor, she dedicated herself to uplifting and guiding children, especially with her time at the Children’s Home Society. She found joy in simple and meaningful things: gathering with family, caring for children. Whether preparing a meal with her beloved collection of cookbooks or sharing stories around the table, she created moments that will be remembered forever. Her legacy is one of faith, love, and service. She leaves behind a lasting impact in the hearts of all who knew her-a reminder of the power of compassion and the beauty of a life devoted to others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Eugene Younger, Jr. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 45 years, Ellis M. Thomas of Bluefield, WV; children, Cynthia L. Younger of Bluefield, WV, Derrick J. Younger and fiancé Ilonah Santos of Atlanta, GA, and Ellis M. Thomas, III and wife Rebecca “Niki” Thomas of Murfreesboro, TN; siblings, Jerry Neal and Arnetta Darden; half-siblings, Ethel _________, Earline Keesley, Curtis Elston, Sr., Ricky Elston, Madeline Baker, and Katherine Harriston; and her grandchildren, Elijah Younger, Aaliyah Younger, Jacquez Younger, Jalysia Younger, Jaylen Younger, Brielle Thomas, Sydney Thomas, and Brayden Thomas. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church at 1:00 p.m. with Bishop Timothy A. Schofield officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.
