Martha Maxine Pritchett

Princeton, WV - Martha Maxine Hypes Pritchett, 85, formerly of John Nash Blvd. in Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Princeton Health Care Center where she had resided for the past year. Born in Princeton, W.Va. on July 30, 1929, she was a daughter of the late William Isaiah Hypes and Annie Opal Bennett Hypes. As a young woman, she worked at Mercer School in Princeton before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a kind and generous neighbor and friend. She lived a life of Christian service always putting the needs of others before her own. For more than 30 years she unselfishly cared for various members of her family during their elder days. A faithful member of Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church in Bluefield, she participated in the children’s ministry including Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, served as communion steward and was a member and officer of the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James E. Pritchett, Jr.; two sisters, Anna Mae Bailey and Ruth Dolan; and four brothers, William Theodore Hypes, John Allen Hypes, David L. Hypes and Jacob Stanley Hypes. Survivors include her three children, son, James E. (Jim) Pritchett, III (Debbie) of Chesterfield, Va., daughter, Martha Mynhier (Robin) of Brighton, Mich. and daughter Sarah Pritchett Dalton of Athens, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Laura Overmyer (Chris) of Carmel, Ind., Jeffrey Mynhier (Nicolle) of Chapel Hill, N.C., Dr. Jonathan Pritchett (Katie) of Holly Springs, N.C. and Jeremy Pritchett of Bluefield; four great-grandchildren, Michael James Pritchett, Elizabeth Grace Overmyer, Claire Findley Pritchett and Katherine Marie Overmyer; brother, James R. Hypes (Maxine) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters, Mary Jane French of Princeton and Georgia Edith Lee of Santa Rosa, Calif.; nieces and nephews; and her grandkitty, Baby Lynn. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM from Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield with Pastor Randy Sargent and Rev. James E. Pritchett, III officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery on the Courthouse Road in Princeton. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, December 1, 2014, from 6 – 8 PM.
