Marie Josephine Ford Alexander

Mrs. Marie Josephine Ford Alexander transitioned on October 1, 2023, at her home in Bluefield WV surrounded by her family. She was born on October 12, 1926. Marie was the eldest of nine children. She was educated in the public school system of Bluefield, West Virginia, graduated from Genoa High School and attended Beautician School in Cleveland, Ohio. Marie had the most amazing and beautiful soul you could imagine. She had a smile that could brighten any room. Marie was employed at the Bluefield Sanitarium Hospital. At an early age she devoted her time to her husband, children, and her home. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, doing hair, working crossword puzzles, and listening to her gospel music quartets. She was a lifelong member of Scott Street Baptist Church where she was one of the oldest serving members. Marie was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a member of the Kitchen Committee, the Deaconess Board, Helping Hand Circle, Naomi Circle, Dorcus Circle, Senior Choir, and Celestial Chorus. Marie is proceeded in death by parents Oscar and Lillian Coles Ford, her maternal and paternal grandparents, her loving and devoted husband of 54 years Henry “H.T.” Alexander II, one son Henry T. (Keith) Alexander III, one daughter Barbara Marlene Alexander Dowell and her siblings who she loved dearly, sisters; Mabel Miller, Sarah Howard, Betty Brison, Peggy Barrett and Helen Alexander, brothers; Oscar Jr. “Duck”, Robert “Bobby” and Paul Jerry “PJ” Ford. She leaves behind to cherish many WONDERFUL memories her 2 daughters, Olivia M. Alexander of Austell, GA, and Sandra L. Alexander of the home who was her primary caregiver until her passing; her three loving grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren whom she enjoyed, Dionna (her oldest granddaughter); Arionna M.; Krisalyn J.; Chaun A. Dowell (her great grandchildren) all of Bluefield, WV; M. Larria and Johnson J. Alexander (her grandchildren) of Austell, GA; one son-in-law whom she loved like a son, Alphonso “Dee” Dowell of Bluefield, WV and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many people who loved her. She also leaves to cherish her memories her best friend, Mrs. Ristina Robinson of Bluefield, WV and a special extended daughter, Willa M. Neal of Washington, DC A Memorial service will be held on Thursday October 12, 2023, at 12:00 PM, in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel. Public visitation will proceed the service from 10:30 AM-until time of service.
