Lydia Proffitt Neal

Lydia Mae Proffitt Neal Born February 22, 1918 Bluefield, WV - An Angel on Earth has been called to rest with Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Although she went through many trials and tribulations, her faith never wavered. She always taught that faith, love, compassion, charity and perseverance were simply the ways of living life. She was a friend, nurturer, mother and tutor to her children and to all who knew here. She was an excellent cook and serving a great meal to her children and their families was one of her greatest pleasures and one of their greatest treasures. She will be missed very greatly by all those who knew and loved her. Now, she is walking with God and has earned her wings. Lydia was preceded in her greetings with Jesus by her husband, Marvin W. Neal; and two children, Raymond E. Neal and Frances I. Neal Ratcliffe. She was also preceded in her walk with the Lord by her mother, Eliza Jane Lawson-Proffitt-Taylor; and her father Joe Proffitt; three siblings, Harless Proffitt, William “Bill” Proffitt and Laura Serena Perdue, and all of them will be there to welcome her into the arms of her blessed Savior. Lydia was the last survivor member of her family. Her surviving children are, Charlotte Ann Perdue and husband Charles, Marvin W. Neal, Jr. “Bill” and wife Chris, Clayton Wayne Neal and wife Linda, Charles Frazier Neal, Brenda Gail Belcher and husband Billy, Carolyn Sue Neal Caldwell, Allen Dale Neal and wife Nancy, Robert Joseph Neal and wife Linda, and Donna Lynn Neal Serrano. Lydia has 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. We are appreciative for everyone that helped weave the tapestry of her Earthly life. The family is also very grateful that Lydia had wonderful caregiver, Libby Perdue, Vickie Whitt, members of The Council on Aging, and Hospice Compassus, and to all who showed her love and compassion during her illness. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Sunday evening, December 18, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday December 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Watkins and Rev. Crockett Davidson, III officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
