Kathryn Ann Slade

Kathryn Ann Shoda Slade, 60 years young, of Springville, VA lost her battle with Kidney Disease on Friday August 4, 2017. Kathy was born on June 19, 1957 in Clarksburg, WV. Kathy was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, WV. Kathy graduated from Bluefield High School in 1975. For the next 25 years she was a loving housewife and devoted mother raising her two children. She graduated from Bluefield College in 2000 (along with her son from Bluefield College and daughter from Graham High School) with a degree in Organizational Management and Development Skills. She then attended Bluefield State College and became a Registered Nurse. Kathy had a passion for the elderly and spent her entire nursing career working in various nursing homes in the area. Kathy married the love of her life Stephen R. Slade on February 25, 1978. Nine months a week and a day later they welcomed their son Grat Slade. Three years later they were blessed with a daughter Stephanie Slade Hylton. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Gladys Shoda of Bluefield, WV and one unborn grandchild, Baby Hylton. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years Stephen R. Slade of the home, son Grat Slade and wife LeAnn of Bluefield, VA, daughter Stephanie Slade Hylton and husband Joshua of Hampton, VA, 4 grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Addison Piper, Macie Noel, Zachary Joseph, and Zander GrattonSlade of Bluefield, VA, sister Peggy Austin and husband Lane of Princeton, WV, several nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly, and 2 granddogs Zoe Marie Slade and Daisy Mae Hylton. She is also survived by Canasta Buddies Susie Chambers, Debbie Spencer, and Vera Lee Austin and a host of friends and relatives too numerous to name. Per her request of cremation, there will be a Visitation/Celebration of Life service Tuesday August 8 at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV from 6-8 pm. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30. Her cousin Rev. Brian Shoda will preside. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday August 9 at 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, WV with her cousin Father Richard Shoda presiding. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Food Pantry in Bluefield, WV or your favorite charity.
