Frank Grahovac

Bluefield, WV - The gates of Heaven opened and welcomed Frank Grahovac, 86 into the presence of greatness, on Jan. 05, 2009. "Poppy" we've never been cold here in your shadow, we've always had your sunshine on our faces. You truly never knew that you were our HERO. Formerly of Bluefield, he resided in Bland County Nursing and Rehab, where the staff loved him. He was the son of Eli and Clara Grahovac. He was preceeded in death by his beautiful wife Betty Jane Smith Grahovac, brother, Tom Grahovac and sister Mary Grahovac Vargo. He lived with an open heart and gave to anyone who needed. Laughed a lot and made us smile. He is the last of the old gentlemen who live with honor and compassion for his fellow human beings. He was a strong man and a great man to all who knew and loved him. The world is less of a place without him and Heaven is a better place now that he is there. He was an amazing husband, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, sister, uncle, dad and best friend. He served in the fourth Division Marine Corp and fought in WW II where he received the medal of honor for saving fellow marines. He is cherished by two grandchildren, Lesley A Lambert and husband Alex of Bluefield, and Scott Merilic of Bluefield. He is adored and surrounded by love with his six grandchildren Alexa Lambert, Luke Lambert, Ethan Lambert, Adrian Merilic, Aaron Merilic and Julie- Ann Merilic one sister Anna Grahovac and one brother Mike Grahovac both of Conklintown wv. We'll be waiting for the day to see you again - Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday January 8, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Kestner officaiting. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV where Military Service be be conduced by the U.S. Army Guard and Mercer County Veterans Council, Serving as pallbearers Alex Lambert, Scott Merilic, Dylan Nichols, Ben Fritz, Jake Jackson, and Fred Weiss.
