Bluefield, VA- Eunice Peery Cooper, 93, of Bluefield, VA, died Saturday April 8, 2023 in Columbia, SC under the care of Heart of Hospice and her daughter Anita J. Cooper. Born August 3, 1929 in Burkes Garden, VA, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Andrew Peery and Anna Laura Peery. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bluefield. She loved her family and anyone in need, especially children. Mrs. Cooper enjoyed doing meaningful work. She was a member of the Bluefield Lioness Club. She served the Bluefield Community volunteering at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Bluefield Union Mission. She loved her flowers, working in the garden, canning the harvest and cooking up a great meal for anyone who entered her home. Mrs. Cooper spent 30 years working with the Special Education students at Wade Elementary School. She never met a stranger and she had a special gift and heart for children. Children everywhere would gravitate to her soft, gentle, loving nature. Mrs. Cooper will be most remembered and missed for the unconditional love she had for everyone she met, her excellent cooking, her incomparable love for her Lord Jesus and her family… and, the generosity of her heart to help anyone in need. Mrs. Cooper was a giver and all the way to the end of her life whenever anyone walked in the door, she was telling her girls to “get them something to eat or drink”. No one left hungry and/or without a gift from her. She was a “giver” all her life. Survivors include three daughters, Donna Cooper Cato of Rural Retreat, VA, Anita J. Cooper of Columbia, SC, Barbara Rose and husband Bob of Bluefield, WV; seven grandchildren, Roger Lee Allen, II and wife Stacey, Brian Allen and wife Kim, Tiffany Howser and husband Mark, Mary Anne Collins and husband Bucky, Melissa Woolwine and husband Glenn, Amy Wilson and husband Kevin, and Becky Barba and husband Chris; 13 great-grandchildren, Brittany Allen, Brody Allen, Tyler Standridge and wife Suzannah, Tanner Cox and wife Brooke, Brandon Blankenship and wife Erika, Ricky Howser, Hannah Howser, Josie Howser, Noah Bailey, Christian Bailey, Ava Wilson, Julia Wilson, Gabbie Barba, and Emerson Barba; two great-great-grandchildren, Brody Blankenship and Braelynn Blankenship; two former sons-in-law, Gary Musser of Bluefield, WV and Roger Allen, Sr. of Murrayville, GA; two sister in laws Vivian Cooper of Bedford VA and Loretta Peery of Summersville, SC; One brother in law Joe Muss Pruett, Tazewell, VA.; Cousin Abby Jo Satchwell of Salem, VA.; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. A funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel on Friday April 14, 2023 with Mrs. Cooper’s nephew Charlie Pruett of Chestnut Grove Christian Church and Douglas W. McDaniel, Jr, Pastor of First Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:30 p.m. until the service hour. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
