Elsie Lovell Rutherford

Bluefield, WV - Elsie Marie Lovell Rutherford 88 of Bluefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Westwood Rehabilitation Center. Born January 19, 1921 in Tazewell, VA, she was the daughter of the late Orabell Sawyers Lovell Waddell and Walter David Lovell. She was a member and faithful attendee of First Christian Church, Bluefield, WV and the Disciples Sunday School Class until failing health prevented her continued attendance. She was a graduate of Tazewell High School, and attended nursing school at St. Luke's' Hospital School of Professional Nursing, Bluefield, WV, graduating in 1945. She worked as a registered nurse for the Bluefield Sanitarium, Bluefield Sanitarium Clinic, Dr. M. Salim Hajjar, and Cumberland Care Facility until she was 67 years of age. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, an infant son, Charles Carlton Rutherford, Jr. and her stepfather, Claude Waddell. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Carlton Rutherford, two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Larry Duckworth of Atlanta, GA and Carolyn and Chuck Law of Bluefield, WV. In addition, she leaves to cherish her memory, five grandchildren, Matthew Duckworth and wife Amanda of Atlanta, GA, Kristen Duckworth Parker and husband Greg of Atlanta, GA, Kari-Beth Law Alden and husband Andrew of Charleston, SC, Benjamin Duckworth and wife Katie of Minneapolis, Minn. and Megan M. Law of Pittsburgh, PA; as well as one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Sophia Parker of Atlanta; and one brother, William Jack Waddell and his wife Phyllis of Leesburg, FL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen A. Hammond officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where family members will serve as pallbearers.
