Ella Linkenhoker Carter

Salisbury, NC - Ella Sue Linkenhoker Carter, born January 15,1920 went home to our Lord on November 20, 2013. Sue was the daughter of the late George William and Lura Lee Conrad Linkenhoker. She was a native of Bluefield, West Virginia and a resident of Trinity Oakes Lutheran Home is Salisbury, North Carolina. She was a Methodist all her life, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 32 years and prior to that, a member of Grace Church. She was well known for her generosity and love of family and friends. She was a Life Time member of the United Methodist Women, served as chairman of the Alter Guild and Superintendent of the Children's Sunday School, a member of Circle #3, Founding Member of the Evening Primrose Garden Club, accomplished seamstress and cook, avid gardener and loved to square dance. Our Mother was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Emory Frank Carter, Sr., her brothers George William, II, James Frederick, and Thomas Scott Linkenhoker, and her sisters Mary Ann Garrett, Vera Louise Wilkinson, and Lura Conrad Johnson Vincent. She is survived by three children, Linda Carter Crowder and husband, Alvin of Marion, VA; Anita Carter Wilson and husband David of Winston-Salem, NC; and Emory Frank Carter, Jr. and wife Iris of Columbia, SC. Also six grandchildren, Alvin E. Crowder, Jr. of Durham, NC; Matthew S. Crowder and wife Ashley of Charlotte, NC; Amy E. Wilson Ott and husband, Ben of Salisbury, NC; Brian D. Wilson and wife Rachel of Garner, NC; Jeffery P. Carter and wife Gillian of Philadelphia, PA; and Melanie L. Carter Miller and husband Craig of North Augusta, SC. And five great-grandchildren, M. Blake Crowder, Ella Brooke Crowder, Piper J. Whittington, Ethan C. Ott, Emma C. Ott, and Marley E. Wilson. The celebration of life will be at Mercer Funeral Home on Saturday, November 23 with visitation at 10:00 and the service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Susan Rector officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley.
