Elizabeth Esker Frazier

Virginia Beach, VA- Elizabeth (Betty, Liz, Bum) born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on September 5th, 1928, was the only daughter of Dr. Harry Hood Esker and Elizabeth Gore Esker and sister of Hood Esker who died of an accident at eight years of age. Married to Walter Chapman Frazier (Chappie) of Bluefield, West Virginia on December 31st, 1950. Elizabeth is survived by four sons and their families: Chapman Hood Frazier married to Deborah Carrington and their son, Dylan C. Frazier married to Kimberly Welch and Elizabeth’s great grandson, Tyler Evan Frazier and daughter Caitlin C. married to William Frank, and Elizabeth’s great granddaughter, Campbell Elizabeth; her second son, Charles Campbell Frazier and his wife Sharon Frazier; third son, Scott Tyler Frazier and his wife Jacque Frazier, and Elizabeth’s great grand daughter Alexa Simone; and fourth son, Robert Esker Frazier and wife, Jill D. Frazier, and their two sons, Ian Campbell and Sean Chapman. Elizabeth considered her sons her treasures and died in her Virginia Beach home of natural causes on February 23, 2014. She graduated in 1946 from Washington Irving High School and attended Wilson College for two years before transferring to Duke University where she was asked to make French language tapes because of her flawless accent. Offered a scholarship to the Sorbonne in Paris, she declined when she became pregnant with her first son. However, she graduated with a Masters Degree in French from West Virginia University, taught at the WVU branch in Parkersburg and Clarksburg and accepted a faculty position to teach French at Salem College. There, she coordinated two student groups to France through the Foreign Language League. After moving to Virginia Beach in 1969, Elizabeth became a successful Real Estate Agent with William E. Woods and then Long and Foster becoming in 1997 a member of the millionaire’s club for sales. An officer of the Great Neck Point Garden Club, she suffered a stoke and spent the remainder of her life living near her family in the Great Neck area in the loving care of Janice Carpenter and her sister, Tara. She will be missed by all of us. Her memorial viewing will be at Holloman Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road North in Virginia Beach on February 26, 2014 at 6:00 PM with a graveside service at Monte Vista Cemetery, Route 123, Bluefield, WV 24701 on February 28, 2014 at 2:00PM.
