Edith Tomchin

Bluefield, VA- Edith Cooper Tomchin, 92, of 2210 W. Cumberland Rd., Bluefield, Va., passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010. Born in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Samuel and Esther Laff Cooper. A graduate of Towson University she taught school in Baltimore and then worked as an electronic technician for the Bendix Corporation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a younger brother, Joseph Cooper. Edith came to the Bluefield area 64 years ago at the time of her marriage to Abe S. (Buddy) Tomchin. She served as president of the Bluefield Heart Association, the Bluefield-Princeton Chapter of Hadassah, and the Graham High School PTA. She was a member of Temple Ahavath Shalom in Bluefield. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and had a gift for listening and caring that won her friends of all ages from all walks of life. She was an avid homemaker, bowler, gardener, reader and animal lover. Her survivors include her beloved husband and friend Buddy, her daughters Ellen (Byron) Berman of Baltimore, Md., Susan Tomchin of Baltimore, grandchildren Emily (Ashley) Bloch, Simcha Berman and Yosef Berman and four great-grandchildren as well as her special friend and caregiver Mary Rosenthal. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday October 13, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley. Serving as pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Watts, Leroy Mabe, Dr. I.J. Rodgin, Alan Siegel and Carl Mariotti, Jr. The family will receive friends from 7:30 ?" 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, October 13 at the Tomchin home, 2210 W. Cumberland Road, Bluefield, VA.
