Douglas Wayne Thompson

God decided to reach down and pluck from this earth one of his BEST flowers. Douglas Wayne “Punkin” Thompson, 40, of Bluefield, WV passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for three years. Oh, if you truly knew Doug, cancer did not win, God just grew tired of watching his ANGEL fight and decided it was time for him to take a rest. Born on January 22, 1978 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of Wayne Douglas and Terry Thompson. Doug was a LOVER of people and enjoyed working out, a good laugh, giving advice, and traveling. His infectious smile was contagious just like his Bear Hugs. He attended Bluefield High School and graduated in 1996. Doug worked at the Bluefield Community Center and the Cinema Movie Theater before joining the Norfolk and Southern Railroad where he was employed for 20 years. He loved music and he was so good at trying to sing. Punkin will be missed by so many. Survivors include: his parents Wayne Douglas and Terry Thompson, two brothers: Christopher (Emily) Thompson of Chantilly, VA, Marcus (Tonya) Jones of Charlottesville, VA, and special Big Brother Sammy Harris of Bluefield, WV; and of course his faithful dog “Samson”. Doug is also survived by a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and very special friends (too many to list individually for fear of omitting someone) who were an integral part of his life. Doug was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Elbert and Nannie Thompson, his paternal grandparents Kenneth and Gracie Thompson, one aunt Constance Pannell, three uncles Maceo Thompson, Elbert Thompson, Clinton Thompson, and Ernest Wilson. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 beginning at 1 pm at the Bluefield Parks and Recreation Center on Stadium Drive, Bluefield, WV, with the Reverend James Palmer officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, WV. Viewing and Visitation with the family is from 11 am until 1 pm. Pallbearers and flower bearers will be family and friends.
