Doris Jean Passan

Bluefield, WV- Doris Jean Murphy Remines Passan of Bluefield, WV, died Saturday November 19, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Born July 16, 1938 in Buchanan County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Grace Murphy of Tazewell County, VA. Doris was a member of First Baptist Church and had worked in the nursing profession for many years. She was active in community and church activities. She put God first, the other person second, and herself third in life; therefore, she was blessed many times over throughout her lifetime. Doris was a past member of Parkview Baptist Church in Bluefield, VA and was very active in its startup. She was active with her children, was a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts and was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award with the PTA. Doris taught in the Nursing program at Southwest Virginia Community College. She was a former President of the Lioness Club for four years, and was an active member of the Lions Club. Doris was also a member of the Garden Club and the Red Hat Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Purdie; three brothers, James Edgar Murphy, Jr., Ben Murphy, and H. Porter Murphy; and her children’s father, William J. Remines. Survivors include her husband, William E. Passan; son, J. Shannon Remines and daughter, Cheryl R. Taylor, both of Bluefield, VA; step-son, William E. Passan, II and wife Erin of Colorado; step-daughter, Tia O’brien and husband Gilbert of Aiken, SC; sisters, Edith M. Miller and husband Jimmy and Carol Spencer, both of Bluefield, WV; brothers, Curtis Murphy and wife Judy of Rock, WV, Billy Murphy and wife Sharon of Abbs Valley, VA, and David Murphy and wife Connie of Abbs Valley, VA; grandchildren, Joseph Marshall Remines of Bluefield, VA, Nicholas Taylor and wife Rachael of Holly Springs, NC, Brittany Quesenberry and husband Daniel of Floyd, VA, Kellen Hylton and husband Dwayne of Midlothian, VA; great-grandchildren, Landon, Mason and Lily Grace Quesenberry, Jackson and Brooks Taylor, Olivia Hylton, Aria Nichole Hylton on the way, and William E. Passan, III ; many nieces, nephews, and her sisters-in-law, Diana Murphy of Abbs Valley, VA and Laurie Murphy of Texas. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Tuesday November 22, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday November 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Coiner officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Joseph Remines, Nick Taylor, Daniel Quesenberry, Dwayne Hylton, Brent Murphy, Jeff Roark, Ronnie Marshall, Justin Spracher, Robbie Murphy, and Barry Matney will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lions Club.
