David Edwin Hines

David Edwin Hines, 85, passed away peacefully at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. David was born on February 9, 1941, in Mount Airy, NC, to the late J.P. “Price” Hines and Hazel Linkous Hines. He spent many years making his home in the Bluefield area, where he built a life filled with family, faith, hard work, and countless memories. David was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Bluefield, a place that was an important part of his life and his faith. After marrying the love of his life and best friend of 55 years, Shirley Shupe Hines, the two made their home in the Brushfork/Bluewell area. Together, they raised their family, shared life's joys and challenges, and created a lifetime of memories. David was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work. He retired from EIMCO as a welder, a career that suited his ability to work with his hands and his natural talent for fixing and building things. His love of working with his hands carried over into one of his favorite pastimes—cars. David was an avid Mopar fan and could often be found working on cars, doing what he enjoyed and sharing his knowledge with others. While David had many interests, his greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband who cherished Shirley and the life they built together. He was also a loving Dad, Granddad, and Dad-dad and his grandchildren and family held a very special place in his heart. The time he spent with them, the memories they made, and the love he gave them will be treasured for generations to come. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Turner. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife and best friend of 55 years, Shirley Shupe Hines; his daughters, Sherry Hines Michael and her husband, Peter, of Pensacola, FL, and Leigh Anne Owen and her husband, Peter, of Charles Town, WV; his grandchildren, Marcy and Callie of Pensacola, FL, Brenden of Oklahoma, and McKenna of Charles Town; Eddie Muncy of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews. David will be remembered for his quiet strength, his hardworking nature, his love of cars, his devotion to his faith, and, most of all, for the love he had for Shirley and his family. He leaves behind more than a lifetime of memories—he leaves a legacy of love that will continue through the family he so proudly helped build. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in Bluefield with Pastor Doug McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 2200 Bland Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
