Charles "Al" Proffitt Sr.

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain...I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far;" Philippians 1:21 & 23 Charles (Al) Proffitt Sr. age 74, of the Springville area of North Tazewell, VA, went to be with his Lord on Saturday 17 August 2019, ending his earthly labor. He was born November 13, 1944 in Bluefield, WV. He was the son of the late Charles (Red) and Juanita Proffitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Wanda Chantelle. He is survived by his wife Wanda, of 54 years; son Chuck and his wife Pam, son Rick; daughter Candace; grandson Dakota and his wife Katie; and granddaughters; Hailey and Misty; brothers Carl and Jerry; and sister Janetta and his four legged companion Bandit. Al was a dedicated and selfless provider for his family, working approximately 10 years at Carter Machinery and approximately 35 years in the mining industry where he was a member of the UMWA. He was also a cross-country tractor trailer driver with his team driver/wife Wanda. Al loved his Harley truck (Smoke) and enjoyed riding his Harley Road King with his children. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. Thank you Barbara Slade and Betty Slade for the way you have blessed this family. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday 21 August from 6-7PM at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 38195 Governor G C Peery, Bluefield, VA. A celebration of life service will begin at 7PM. Pastor Ricky Stacy will be officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, VA on Thursday August 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM . David Tiller, Randy Carter, Shawn Brown, Robert Brown, Johnathan Brown, George Faulkner, Zachary Taylor, Michael Brown, Roger Osborn, and Bruce Remines,Edward Tiller, Tracy Tiller, Henry Taylor, and JR Hager will serve the family as bearers and honorary pallbearers.
