Carole Shea Faulkes

Rocky Gap, VA- Carole (Shea) Faulkes, age 97, of South Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Rocky Gap, VA on Friday March 11, 2016. Carole was born on August 3, 1918 in Lena, WI, the daughter of Edward J. and Flora M. Shea. She grew up in Wisconsin and attended the Milwaukee College of Business. On August 3, 1940, Carole was united in marriage to George Sherman Faulkes in Milwaukee. She and George enjoyed playing social bridge on Saturday nights and Newcomer’s Club in South Charleston. They were married for 49 years. Carole is preceded in death by her husband, George (1989), her parents, and her sisters, Eylene Schlough of Madison, WI, and Bernice Loomis of Wisconsin Dells, WI. Carole lovingly raised five children while she worked from home as the Secretary/Treasurer for O.K. Construction Company for many years. She is survived by all of her children, Georgia Hudson of South Charleston, WV, Gloria Faulkes of Madison, WI, Danna Munson (Bradley) of Rockford, IL, Cindy Lawson (Gary) of Rocky Gap, VA, and Bill Faulkes (Betty) of South Charleston, WV. Carole also has 13 grandchildren, Kelley Larkin (Tim) of Denver, CO, Stephanie Helminger (Chad) of Trumbull, CT, Vanessa Williams (Mike) of Denver, CO, Greg Granberg (Bette) of Madison, WI, Justin Granberg of Madison, WI, Brinley Conner (Angela) of Bluefield, VA, Aaron Lawson (Holly) of Speedwell, VA, Sean Lawson (Ashley) of Roanoke, VA, Chad Lawson (Lyndsey) of Daniels, WV, Erica Taylor (George) of Roanoke, VA, George Faulkes of South Charleston, WV, Will Faulkes of South Charleston, WV, Chad Bradshaw of San Antonio, TX; and 17 great-grandchildren. Carole was a kind, gentle and caring person who was forever loyal to her family and friends. She had a passion for playing the piano and did so for over 90 years. Flower arranging and participating in Garden Club were her favorite pastimes. She was a longstanding member of South Charleston First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the fellowship of friends in the church “Circle”. Carole had a positive attitude towards living life and loved to laugh. She will be so missed by all her loved ones. A memorial service will be held at South Charleston First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 23, 2016. Prayers and interment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, WV.
