Calvin Roy "Pete" Doss

Bluefield, WV- Calvin Roy "Pete" Doss, 73, born September 24, 1941, passed away on November 24, 2014, from cirrhosis of the liver, recently confirmed to have been caused by multiple myeloma. He fought a courageous battle for the past year with the support of his family and with hope and optimism extended by the Cleveland Clinic. Pete was a lifelong resident of Bluefield and was a well-known auto mechanic. He proudly served in the Army National Guard. Pete was employed by numerous service stations and garages and also enjoyed operating his own businesses throughout the area over the past 50 years. He was most recently employed by Appalachian Tire Products, Inc. in Bluefield before the business closed. Pete's mechanical expertise was obvious when working on automobiles. Pete enjoyed talking to anyone who would join him in a conversation and was a friend to everyone. He was kind-hearted, honest, and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a wonderful dad and husband and was highly admired and loved by his family and friends. Pete was a car enthusiast and enjoyed tinkering with engines, restoring antique cars, and attending car shows. He was an avid Harry Gant fan. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Doss, two sisters, Lois Phillips and Edith Smith, brother, Harold Doss, and Pete's twin brother, Alvin Coy Doss, who always remained in his heart. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Letha Hawkins Doss, daughter, Callie Susanne Doss, both of the home, a son, Calvin Roy (Chip) Doss, Jr. and wife, Marcy, brother, Clarence (Bud) Doss, two grandchildren, Caitlin Doss and Tim Doss, one great grandchild, Madeline, two very special in-laws, Mary L. Hawkins and Susan Hawkins. Pete was a member of Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield. He has been cremated according to his wishes. A celebration of Pete's life will be held at Mercer Funeral Home on Friday, November 28, 2014, at 7:00 PM with the Reverend Raymond Klaiber officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, one hour prior to the service. Special friends and family include Elaine Pedneau, Mike Hawkins, Danny Phillips, Bubby Doss, The Wright's, Ann Hazelwood, Don Dillon, Leonard Hall, Chad Hatcher, Rick Morris, Jim Flinchum, Frank Perdue, R.T. Andrews, Jack Burchette, James Mooney, Billy Kinzer, Skip Gibbs, and the employees of Bluefield Radiator Service and Advance Auto Parts in Bluefield. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, or The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
