Bluefield, VA- Byron Donald Cooper, 92, of Bluefield, VA, died Thursday October 15, 2015 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born August 18, 1923 in Nebo, VA, he was a son of the late Adam Hugh Cooper and Maude Grey Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bluefield. He loved his family and anyone in need. Mr. Cooper enjoyed doing meaningful work. He was a member of the Bluefield Lion’s Club for over 50 years where he was the number one Salesman for tickets to the Pancake Jamboree. He was a master gardener, an avid fisherman and loved sports. He was a former member of Triangle Sportsman Club. Mr. Cooper worked at Citizens Building Supply for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Joe, and Herbert Cooper; and one sister, Grey Coleman. Survivors include the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Eunice Peery Cooper of Bluefield, VA; three daughters, Donna Cooper Cato and husband Rick of Galax, VA, Anita Cooper of Columbia, SC, and Barbara Rose and husband Bob of Bluefield, WV; seven grandchildren, Roger Lee Allen, II and wife Stacey, Brian Allen and wife Kim, Tiffany Howser and husband Mark, Mary Anne Musser, Melissa Bailey and fiancé Glenn Woolwine, Amy Wilson and husband Kevin, and Becky Barba and husband Chris; 13 great-grandchildren, Brittany Allen, Brody Allen, Tanner Cox, Brandon Blankenship, Ricky Howser, Hannah Howser, Josie Howser, Noah Bailey, Christian Bailey, Ava Wilson, Julia Wilson, Gabbie Barba, and Emerson Barba; two great-great-grandchildren, Brody Blankenship and Braelynn Blankenship; two sons-in-law, Gary Musser of Bluefield, WV and Roger Allen, Sr. of Tannersville, VA; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Cooper of Saltville, VA, and Marie Cooper of Marion, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Douglas McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
