Annis Florene Sullivan

Annis Florene Sullivan was born November 16, 1931, to Roy and Callie Kirkman, in Florence, Alabama, the eighth of ten children (who are all deceased). She departed this life on September 9, 2022 at Carrington Place in Wytheville, VA In 1955 Annis moved to Lima Ohio, where she met and joined in Holy Matrimony Floyd Leon Sullivan, who preceded her in death. To this union three children were born, Melody, Marviene and Michael. Annis attended Cloverdale public school during elementary and junior high school. Then she attended Burrell High School in Florence, Alabama. After graduation, she attended the State Vocational training school where she earned a professional license in cosmetology. Later she went to Man Power Training Center and received a certificate in nursing as a nurse assistant and worked at Metropolitan Hospital of Cleveland, Ohio until she retired. After retiring she worked as a home health aide. As a teenager, she joined the Little Zion Baptist Church. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio where she received a deeper life in Christ and joined the Pentecostal Tabernacle United Holy Church of America, where she served faithfully until moving to Rocky Gap, Virginia with her daughter after a brief illness. Moving to Virginia she became a member of Tynes Chapel A.M.E Zion Church, where she served faithfully until her death. When in Cleveland, she served as a Sunday School teacher, on the Adult Usher Board, Vice President of Foreign & Home Mission, President of the Young People’s Service and as Assistant to the pastor. She was dedicated to helping others, always willing to give a helping hand. Annis leaves to cherish her memory, her three children, Melody Johnson, (Wallace), Stone Mountain, Atlanta, Marviene Johnson, (Fred), of the home, Rocky Gap, Virginia, and Michael Sullivan, Cleveland, Ohio. And his long-time friend Marzella Holly. Nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a host of nieces & nephews, friends and church families. (written by Annis Sullivan) A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday September 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Tynes Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Marviene Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Friday evening, September 23, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Hogan and Charleton Cemetery in Rocky Gap, Virginia.
