Alda Doris Carbaugh

Alda Doris Carbaugh, 92, of Dalton, Georgia, passed peacefully surrounded by her family and the love of her life, Richard T. Carbaugh Sr., on June 30, 2020 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Doris and Richard would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on July 6, 2020. She was born in Shawsville, Virginia to the late George W. Sink, Sr. and Lucile Sink. Doris graduated from Princeton High School. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend lived her life with strength, kindness, gentleness, humor, and spunk up to the very end. We know her last breath on earth was her first breath in the arms of Jesus. Several months ago her husband asked, "If you could have anything in the world, what would you want?" She answered that she would like to have a new mind. That wish has been granted - she has a new mind and a new body, both without sickness and pain. She has now been reunited with family and friends she hasn't seen in a very long time. She is in a wonderful place where she can garden, golf, sing, and cook to her heart's content. We look forward to seeing her again one day to sample some of her fabulous cooking, hear her sweet laughter, and hold her in our arms once more. In the meantime, we know her mind and body are whole again, and she is at peace. Knowing she is healed gives us peace, even in our grief, as we wait to see her again. We believe her biggest and best accomplishment was serving as the matriarch and rock of our family. She and Richard, throughout their marriage, demonstrated what love, loyalty, and friendship should be. Together they raised children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to be good people...people who have, in their own ways, grown up and changed the world. People who deeply loved and respected her every day of her life. In addition, Doris was the former owner and operator of the Roller Floral Company in Bluefield, WV. She was an avid reader, golfer, and bridge player. Not only did she give her love and time to her family, but she also gave her gifts to her community. During her years in Bluefield, as well as her time in retirement in Sebring, Florida, she was a hospital and church volunteer. Doris was also a former member and president of the Quota International Club and a former member of the Lion's Club Auxiliary while living in Bluefield. She is survived by her husband, Richard T. Carbaugh, Sr.; their son Danny Carbaugh and daughter-in-law Kathy of Brooksville, FL; daughters Carol Woodward and son-in-law Tom, of Princeton, WV; and Debbie Daniels and son-in-law Chris of Dalton, GA; 9 grandchildren Danny Lee Vinson, Angela Matousek, Ricky Carbaugh, Kristen Iturriaga, Melissa Nutter, Cyndi Brown, Dale Swiger, Michele Pirkle, and Stephanie Bond; 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; seven siblings, brothers George W. Sink, Jr. and sister-in law Freddie; Russell Sink and sister-in-law Allene; Sam Sink and sister-in-law Christie; Jerry Sink and sister-in-law Suzanne; and sisters Nancy Richard; Norma Bradley and brother-in-law Martin; Darlene Spangler and brother-in-law Jim. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held at Mercer Funeral Home located at 1231 West Cumberland Road, Bluefield, West Virginia on Friday, July 3, 2020. Visitation is at 2PM, followed by funeral services at 3PM. Doris never wanted to say "goodbye", she much preferred "so long". Well...so long sweet lady, so long. We love you.
