Bluefield, WV- George Washington Harless, 85, of 7078 North Scenic Highway, Bastian VA, 24314 died Wednesday March28, 2007 in a Roanoke hospital.

     Born February 22, 1922 in Pickshin, WV he was the son of he late Luther May Harless and Lena Rivers Minnick Harless.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served in the South Pacific during World War II.  He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was an active member of the Wytheville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, was one time the presiding overseer of the Bland Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was active in his ministerial work both publicly and privately.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin R. Dillow; five brothers, Marion, Everett, Paul, Orville and Roy Harless; and one daughter-in-law, Loretta M. Harless.

     Survivors include two sons, Richard D. Harless of Princeton and George R. “Ron” Harless and his wife Jordan of Bastian; one stepson, Walter Greenspon of Charlottesville, VA; two brothers, L.M Harless, Jr. and his wife Shirley of Clearfork, VA and Glen Harless and his wife Shirley of Dryfork, VA; two sisters, Violet Coffey and her husband Manuel of Bluefield, VA and Iris Nadin Williams of Tazewell, VA; two grandchildren, Jeremy Austin Harless and his wife Melissa, and Christinia D. Dillow; four step grandchildren, Junior Munsey and Tommy, John Greenspon and Tonia Long and her husband Rick; two great-grandchildren Charlie and Bradley; and several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-laws. 

     Funeral services will be held on Saturday March31, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Billy Gusler of the Narrows Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating.

     The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. 

     Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley.  Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends. 

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in Mr. Harless’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
