Bluefield, WV - Patsy T. Malamisura 84 of 1700 Augusta Street Bluefield, WV died Saturday March 24, 2007
at a Bluefield hospital. He was born on April 5, 1922 in Saint Agata DiPuglia
Italy to the late Antonio Malamisura and Margaret Tedeschi Malamisura.
He immigrated to Bluefield
at the age of five, and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from
Beaver High School.
Patsy served in the U.S. Army in the European and African
campaigns from 1943 to1945. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980
after 31 years of service. He was well known as a sports enthusiast, and he
officiated most area sports for forty years. Patsy was active in numerous civic
activities and was most proud of his service in the American Legion. He served
as the area chairman for Mountaineer Boys State for 37 years. During that time
he also served as Senior Counselor. The highlight of his distinguished community
service was when he was awarded the American Legion's Distinguished Citizenship
Award last November.
Patsy was a lifelong active
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield. In addition to his parents,
Patsy was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Christopher Malamisura.
He is survived by his wife Jean Bouldin Malamisura, sons Dr.
Michael Malamisura and his wife Mary of Bluefield, WV, Rocky Malamisura and his
wife Sandra of Bluefield, VA, a daughter Margaret Harless and her husband
"Skip" of Rocky Gap, VA, grandchildren Zach Perkins, Zane Perkins and his wife
Ashby, Andrea Malamisura, Kara Perkins, Emily Malamisura, and Tyler Malamisura,
as well as a great-grandson Zane Anthony Perkins. He is also survived by a
sister Lucy Burke of Roanoke, VA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday March 27,
2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Mathena as
Celebrant. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at
Princeton where Military Graveside Rites will be rendered by members of American
Legion Post #14 of Pocahontas, VA and V.F.W. Post 9696 of Bluefield. Pallbearers
will be Michael Malamisura, Rocky Malamisura, Zach Perkins, Zane Perkins, Randy
Albert and Bill Albert.
The family will receive friends Monday March 26, 2007 at
Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Christian
Wake Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. with Deacon Don Hammond officiating.
