JoAnne Boyd Lowe, 71, of 1624 Whitethorn Street Ext., Bluefield, WV, died March
23, 2007 in a Bluefield hospital.
Born April 19, 1935 in
Erwin, TN where she was raised, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ferrell
Boyd and Margaret Martin Boyd. Mrs. Lowe graduated from ETSU in 1957 with a
degree in Speech Therapy and Audiology. She married William James Lowe, Sr. of
Grundy, VA in August 1957. Mrs. Lowe worked as a teacher and was instrumental in
starting the Speech Therapy program in Tazewell County. She retired from the
West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources in Princeton after 29
years as a social worker. She was a member of Fincastle Presbyterian Church in
Bluefield, VA and a former member of the Bluefield Civic League.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Carl David Lowe, II; two
brothers, Robert and Ferrell Boyd; one sister, Rebecca Boyd; and one
brother-in-law Edward Morgan Lowe.
Survivors include her
husband, William James Lowe, Sr. of the home, four children, Mary Lowe Nunn and
her special friend William “Bill” Dycus of Wytheville, VA, William James Lowe,
Jr. and his special friend Ronnie Dorsett of Wilmington, NC, Nancy Lowe Hopkins
and her husband James Ray “Chip” Hopkins, Jr. of Williamsport, MD and Sarah
Lowe Lewis and her husband Michael Lewis of Rocky Gap, VA; two sisters, Marjorie
Drewry and her husband Shepherd of Virginia Beach, VA and Jane Lovelace of
Erwin, TN; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchild and several nieces and
nephews.
The family will receive
friends on Monday evening, March 26th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at
the funeral home.
Funeral services will
be conducted on Tuesday March 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Fincastle Presbyterian
Church in Bluefield, VA with Rev. Cathy Carpenter and Dr. Allen Hammond
officiating.
Serving as pallbearers
will be Michael Lewis, James Ray “Chip” Hopkins, Jr., James P. Nunn, Demaris
Lance, Jackson Keyes Hopkins and William “Bill” Dycus.
In accordance with the
wishes of Mrs. Lowe’s family, her body will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Bluefield Union Mission,
2203 Bluefield Avenue, Bluefield, WV 24701.
