Bluefield, WV – Ruth Campbell Ballard 91 of 815 Albemarle Street, Bluefield, WV passed away Wednesday March 14, 2007 at her residence.

    Born January 24, 1916 in Ballard, WV she was the daughter of the late Ira Lee and Rose Virginia Campbell of Bozoo, WV.

    She had been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since 1946 where she was active in the Women of the Church. She retired from Eastern Coal Company in 1972, and since then has enjoyed her home, family and church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half brothers and three half sisters.

    She is survived by her husband of 69 years Elwood Ballard, a daughter Georgann Simmons and her husband Chip of Bluefield, WV one grandson Todd Simmons and his wife Crystal of Newland, NC, a sister Berneice Canterbury of Portsmouth, VA and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Friday March 16, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the chapel of Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield with Rev. Howard Finkle and Dr. Allen A. Hammond officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.

    Graveside rites and burial at Monte Vista Park Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Bluefield Union Mission, 2203 Bluefield Avenue, Bluefield, WV 24701.
