Roanoke, VA- Bill C. Edwards, of 7372 LaMarre Circle, Roanoke, VA, formerly of Hot Springs, VA and Bluefield, WV, died Monday, March 5, 2007 in Charlottesville, VA at the University of Virginia Medical Center following a brief illness.

      He was born December 25, 1922 in Mt. Lebanon, LA to the late James Garland and Esther Brinson Edwards.  He graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration from Louisana Polytechnical Institute in 1948. He was of the Presbyterian faith. 

      Mr. Edwards joined Bluefield Supply Company’s accounting department in 1948, and was subsequently promoted to Treasurer in 1960.  He became a member of the Board of Directors in 1961 where he served as vice president and treasurer from 1965 until his retirement from the company in1980. He made a great and lasting contribution to the betterment and growth of the company and demonstrated acute acumen in the field of finance.

      He was president of Tri-City Traction Company in Bluefield for many years beginning in 1954, and he was also associated with Rish Equipment Company, Dixie Appliance Co., Mason-Dixon Distributors, Skyland Hospital Supply Co., and was a director of the Princeton Bank and Trust Co.  He served with the United States Army Air Force from 1942-1945 as a fighter pilot during World War II.  He was a long-time member of The Greenbrier Resort at White Sulphur, WV and The Homestead Resort at Hot Springs, VA. He was extremely active in community affairs in Bluefield, WV.

       Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Shuff Edwards, and a grandson, William Scott Edwards.

       He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Tinder Edwards; sons, William Denny Edwards of Columbus, OH and James G. “Smokey” Edwards, II and his wife Beverly White Edwards, of Atlanta, GA; grandsons James Garland Edwards, III and his wife Emily of Atlanta, GA; and Matthew Shuff Edwards and his wife, Megan, of Richmond, VA; great-grandson, Davis James Edwards of Atlanta, GA; special nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.

      A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2007 at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, with Dr. Don Scott officiating. The family may be reached at the home of Frank C. Tinder, 2222 West Cumberland Road, Bluefield, Virginia.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Bible in the Schools, P. O. Box 543, Bluefield, WV 24701.
