– Alton G. "Jack" Albert On Monday afternoon January 15, 2007, with loving family present, our "Uncle
Jack" left us to go into the loving arms of his Father and his family who left
before him. Jack lived his life as we all strive to, always smiling, never a
cross word for anyone and making us all better people for having known him.
Jack, a member of the "Greatest Generation", was a proud veteran of the United
States Navy having served as a coxswain with LCT Flotilla Group 19 at Omaha
Beach on D-Day June 6
1944. After his honorable discharge from the service following the war, he
returned home where following a brief mining career, went on to work at Southern
Maid Dairy where he remained for many years, retiring from its successor Flavor
Rich Diary. He was a member of Falls Mills Christian Church.
Jack was born July 18,
1918 in Radford, VA a son of the late Isaac Earl Albert and Glyno Garretson
Albert. At the time of his death Jack was a resident of The Maples. Prior to
that he had lived for several years at the WV Manor in Bluefield. He was
preceded in death by five brothers, Mark, Earl, Bob, Larry and Dale and one
sister, Dorothy.
Jack is survived by one
brother, William E. Albert of Bluefield and one sister Adele Davidson of North
Augusta, SC. He is also survived by nephews Bill, Randy, Carlton, Clarence,
Troy, Garnet, Steve, and Duke Albert, Johnnie, Artie and Ronnie Davidson, and
nieces Treva Quensberry, Joy Nester, Sharon Hicks, Marie Roder, Pam Whitson,
Kellen Albert, Sherry Holland, Kathy Davidson, a sister-in-law Ruth Albert and
best friend Freddie Blevins.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday January 19, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor
Jason Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in
Green Valley where Military Graveside Rites will be rendered by V.F.W. Post #
9696, Bluefield, VA and American Legion Post # 14 of Pocahontas, VA. Serving as
pallbearers will be Bill Albert, Randy Albert, Clarence Albert, Carlton Albert,
Duke Albert and Garnet Albert. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Underwood,
Freddie Blevins, Troy Albert, David Albert and Ryan Albert.
The family will receive
friends Thursday January 18, 2007 at the funeral home from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
