
Bluefield, WV
– Audrey Gayheart Mayberry 81 of Rt. 2 (Ada Road) Bluefield, WV died Saturday
February 17, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Bluefield, VA.
Born May 13, 1925 in
Vest, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Carlos and Dora Dobson Gayheart,
and Hiram and Sadie Messer. She was preceded in death by one brother Vern
Messer, and two sisters Virginia, and Gennivieve Messer. She had been a
resident of Bluefield for over 50 years and was of the Methodist faith, was a
member of Ada Chapel and loved the Lord with all her heart, and has gone home to
be with her loving husband Theodore.
She was a beautiful
seamstress and owned Audrey’s and Billie’s Fabric Shop in Bluefield. She was a
busy volunteer working with the Mercer County Environmentalist Restoration
Project. She was the Godmother of the agency and received numerous awards for
her love of the land.
Survivors Include two
sons, Donald R. Mayberry US NAVY (RET) and his wife Leona of Pensacola, FL and
Rodney E. Mayberry USMC (RET) and his wife Debbie of Bluefield, WV, two
daughters, Connie Saunders and her husband Rick of Bluefield, VA and Elizabeth A
George and her husband Joseph of Princeton, WV, brothers, Earl Gayheart of
Portland, OR and Christopher Messer of San Antonio, TX, seven grandchildren,
Paula Mayberry of Minneapolis, MN, Rick Wellons of Bluefield, WV, Wendy Philpott
and her husband Jeff of Basset, VA, Gray Peretti and her husband Anthony of
Bluefield, WV, John Mayberry and his wife Wendy of Bluefield, Cansas Riggenbach
and her husband Tim of Bluefield, WV and Jessica George of Princeton, WV, five
great-grandchildren, Tripp and Ginna Philpott of Basset, VA, Jacob and Tate
Mayberry of Bluefield, WV and Donovan Tolliver of Huntington, WV.
Audrey was Mother to
many especially Allen, Joyce, Beverly, Sherry and Jimmy Mayberry. She also
helped raise Karen, Eugenia, Nigal and Olga Messer. David Kraft was a special
son. She was a loving wife, Mother, and friend.
She will also be missed
by Charlie and Emmy her pets. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday
February 21, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield
with Pastor David Kraft officiating. Interment and additional services will
follow in Newland, NC.
The family will receive
friends Tuesday February 20, 2007 at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The
family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the
Alzheimer’s Association, 1111 Lee Street, Charleston, WV 24301
