Bluefield, WV- James L. Combs, 82, of Glenwood Park Nursing Home, Princeton, WV (formerly of 4304 Brierwood Lane, Bluefield) passed away Wednesday February 14, 2007.

     The eldest son of the late Pearly L. Combs and Beulah B. Clark Combs, he was born on September 7, 1924.

     James was retired from Appalachian Power after 40+ years and served in the United States Army during World War II.  He was a member of Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield.

     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Estelle Casto of Charleston, WV, Dorothy M. Combs Hager of Bluefield, Candace L. Combs Kidd of Princeton, Julia F. Combs Malamisura of Bluefield, and Marjorie F. Combs Otto of Michigan; one daughter, Carolyn Combs Mitchell of Bluefield, WV and one son, David Combs of Blacksburg, VA and one sister-in-law, Sally Combs of Princeton. 

     Survivors include wife Emma Bailey Combs of the home; two brothers, Otto Combs of Princeton, WV and Russell Combs and wife Melda of Princeton, WV; one sister, Lucille Combs Johnson and husband Vic of Augres, Mich; one daughter-in-law, Angela Combs of Blacksburg, VA; one son in law, James “Jimmy” Mitchell of Bluefield; 3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday February 17, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Butch Honaker officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be private.

     Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Combs, Raymond Hager, Jake Kirby, Phillip Bailey, Elmer Morris and Emmett Bailey.
