
Bluefield, WV
- Robert Clayton McClung, 84, of 1328 Larchmont Street, Bluefield, died Monday,
April 17, 2006 at his home.
Born in Greenbrier County,
April 21, 1921, he was a son of the late Lorenzo Olen McClung and Lena Hedrick
McClung. A graduate of Alderson High School, he attended King College in
Bristol, Tennessee and Concord (College) University before joining the United
States Navy Air Corp during World War II. Commissioned an Ensign, he was a
co-pilot, navigator on land-based bombers.
He was a partner in
Montgomery and McClung Fuel Forwarding Agency in Roanoke, Virginia and later in
Bluefield. He retired as Sales and Distribution Manager for Jno. McCall Coal
Company, Inc.
He was a member of Trinity
United Methodist Church, the Christian Action Class, a twenty-eight year member
of the Kiwanis Club and a former member of the Sales Executive Club.
Besides his parents, he was
preceded in death by a son, Robert Thomas McClung, his twin sister, Roberta
McClung Kerr of Durham, North Carolina, brothers John Raymond McClung of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Lorenzo Ralph McClung of Alderson.
Survivors include his wife
of 61 years, Mary Ruth Montgomery McClung of Blue field, daughter, Jean McClung
Stipe of Leesburg, Virginia, son Andrew Clayton McClung and wife Deborah
Elizabeth McClung of Roanoke, Virginia; five grandchildren, Catherine Bennett
Stipe of Nashville, Tennessee, Robert Drew Stipe of Rock Hill, South Carolina,
Angela McClung Combs and husband Chris Combs of Durham, North Carolina, Mary
Beth McClung Gerstmyer and husband Drew Gerstmyer of Advance, North Carolina and
Rebecca Ann McClung of Roanoke, Virginia, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday April 20, 2006 at Trinity United Methodist
Church of Bluefield with Dr. Don Scott and Dr. Charles Miller officiating.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley where family
members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive
friends Wednesday April 19, 2006 at Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield
from 6-8
p.m.

Trinity United Methodist Church, 401 College Ave., Bluefield, WV 24701.
