
Bluefield-
William Warren Baker, 81, of 101 East Montvale St., Bluefield, VA, died Saturday
April 29, 2006 at the Westwood Medical Center.
Born January 4, 1925 in
McMecken, WV, he was a son of the late Majors Barton and Columbia Baker, who
were the corps officers of the Bluefield Salvation Army for twenty years. He was
a veteran of WW II and was trained as a Surgical Technician in the Army Medical
Corps serving in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany.
He was a graduate of
Beaver High School, Concord University, and Marshall University. He taught at
Beaver High School and Princeton Junior High School. He accepted a
principalship at Chilhowie, VA and later moved to Spotsylvania County in VA,
where he was at different times; High School Principal, Vocational School
Principal, Director of Vocational Education, and Administrative Assistant to the
Superintendent.
In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by his daughter; Sandra Baker Scott, sisters;
Edna Baker Beyer, and Ruth Baker Pickering.
He is survived by his
son; Roy Warren Baker of Garden City, SC, a brother; Roy Edward Baker and wife
Jo of Apple Valley, CA, and four nephews, Henry Beyer, William Beyer, Phillip
Beyer, James Beyer, and their families.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 818,
Bluefield, WV 24701.
Graveside services will
be conducted Friday May 5, 2006 at 2 P.M.
