
Bluefield-
James Edward Stamper, 87, of
#7 Greenbrier Drive, Holly Hill Estates, Bluefield, died Thursday, April 27,
2006 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Born July 5, 1918 in
Atkins, VA, he was a son of the late, Charles Edward and Phebia Jane Anders
Stamper. He was retired self-employed contractor. Prior to being self- employed,
he worked for Glen El Martin Air Force Base. Mr. Stamper was a veteran of the
U.S. Navy having served his country in W.W. II.
In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Walter and Frank Stamper; four
sisters, Louise and Verna Rose Stamper, Mattie Stamper Short, and Bessie Pearcy,
and a loving grandson and granddaughter; Richard Odell III and Vicky Glass.
Survivors include his
wife; Grethuel Stamper of the home; daughters Janie Odell and husband Richard of
Bluefield, VA, Wanda Grim of Bluefield, WV, Barbara Neal and Allen Fuller of
Bluefield, WV, Janet Nelson and husband Robert “butch” of Bluefield, WV, ten
grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews,
and friends.
Funeral services will
be conducted Monday May 1, 2006 at 2 P.M. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel
with the Rev. Frank Watkins officiating. Burial will follow from the Roselawn
Memorial Gardens Cemetery located in Princeton where military graveside rites
will be preformed by the Mercer County Veterans Council. Serving as pallbearers
will be Mr. Stamper’s grandsons.
