Atlanta GA - Mrs. Nellie Garrett Frye, age 87, of 1009 Frederick Street, Bluefield, West Virginia passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Nellie died of cardiac arrest while in recovery from abdominal surgery. She was born October 8, 1918 in Wilder, Virginia to the late Oscar and Augusta Garrett. She grew up in Clincho, Virginia where her father was a mechanic in the coal mines.       

     Nellie moved to Bluefield in 1938 to attend Bluefield Business College. She met and married Paul Frye in 1940. He was in military service during World War II and died in 1950 due to complications from his service. Nellie worked in women’s clothing shops in Bluefield for 25 years and retired in 1974. Nellie has been a member of The First Christian Church for 60 years and was very active in the church until her health prohibited her further involvement. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) and a 50 year member of the Bluefield Chapter #66 Order of Eastern Star.

           In addition to her parents Nellie was preceded in death by her husband George Paul Frye of Bluefield.

           Nellie is survived by her daughter Linda Frye Campbell and son-in-law Alan Campbell of Atlanta, Georgia; her brother Willie Garrett and sister-in-law Jan of Pensacola, FL; her sister-in-law Joselean Garrett of Clintwood, VA; and her nieces and nephews David Ledgerwood, Terry Garrett, Darlene Garrett, Bobby Garrett, Billy Garrett, Fred Garrett, and Trina Foster all of Bristol, VA.

          The funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 1:00pm at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield, WV with Reverend Russell Smith officiating. The interment will follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Mercer Funeral Home on Friday, April 28, 2006 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm and on Saturday April 29, 2006 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 2200 Bland Rd., Bluefield, WV 24701.
