Ronald S. Blankenship,
71, of 4823 Innisbrook Court, Unit 701, Myrtle Beach, SC (and formerly of
Bluefield), died Thursday March 30, 2006 in a Conway, SC hospital.
Mr. Blankenship was born October 18, 1934, in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of
Margaret Green Blankenship of Williamsburg, VA and the late Charles Scott
Blankenship. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served
three tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star for the
leadership that he displayed during Vietnam. Mr. Blankenship was also retired
from N & W Railroad where he was a conductor.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael K.
Blankenship.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Shirley Stamper
Blankenship, of the home; two brothers, Ted Blankenship and his wife Sally of
CA, and Charles P. Blankenship of Poquoson, VA; three nephews, Charles P. “Chip”
Blankenship, II and his wife Belinda of Cincinnati, OH and Timothy Blankenship
and his wife Julie of Key Biscayne, FL, and Jim Blankenship of CA, and a niece;
Kimberly Blankenship also of CA.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday April 4, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the
Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Davidson officiating. Burial will
follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery where the Mercer County Veteran’s Council
will provide military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Monday April 3, 2006 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the
funeral home.
